My husband used to travel a lot (pre-marriage) and I love hearing his stories from all the neat places he has visited . Since we met, I have heard about this French bistro in Napa, California - Bistro Jeanty, and their fantastic tomato soup with puff pastry.
Imagine our surprise when we looked up the restaurant online and found they have a copy of this recipe on their website. I recently got adorable Food Network mini bakers from Kohl's and I thought they'd be perfect to serve/bake the soup in, so I definitely had no excuses not to make it!
This is hardly a traditional condensed soup in a can. I was amazed at how many steps there were to it, and it was a kitchen adventure making something this gourmet.
Cooking down the onions and fresh tomatoes
Mixing in the cream after straining the tomatoes
Filling the adorable mini bakers
Covered with the puff pastry and ready for the oven
Ta-da!
You can find the recipe here if you want to try it for yourself.
Mike said he didn't think it was quite as good as the Bistro's, but it was great fun trying to recreate one of his travel favorites.
Oh my goodness! That sounds and looks amazing. You can invite us over for food anytime. ;-)
